Days
out in and around Cheshunt
London
at night
Cheshunt
in Hertfordshire, just north-east of London, is a small, largely
commuter town with a population of about 52,000. Set in this
beautiful county, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life
in London, yet easily reachable by trains every 30 minutes,
Cheshunt is an ideal base for exploring this area, and there are
lots of things to keep you occupied here.
The
town itself is quite small and has an almost village feel to it,
with its friendly local people and collection of quaint pubs.
There’s a small shopping centre, but for more choice people go
to nearby Brookfield Shopping Centre or other nearby towns. As
well as supermarkets and local smaller grocery shops, there’s a
monthly farmers' market in Loughton just five miles away, with a
large collection of locally produced products including meats,
baked goods and organic food. There are some very good restaurants
in the town, with options including Italian, Indian and even the
latest in Japanese cuisine. There’s also plenty of cafes and
pubs serving traditional British fare.
Cheshunt
is so well connected by public transport that you can easily
explore the surrounding area. There’s the Great Wood Country
Park nearby, which offers many tracks and trails through the vast
woodland to spot the native wildlife. Or, why not visit Waltham
Abbey or the Adventure Island Playbarn just 11 miles away? With
countryside and quaint towns scattered around Cheshunt, there is
plenty to see and do, and that’s not even mentioning possibly
the biggest draw: London. With so many London-bound trains taking
only 30 minutes to reach central London, it’s no wonder many
people use Cheshunt as a base for exploring the ’Big Smoke’.
There is so much to do in London, whatever your interests - from
museums to Oxford Street shopping, to sights such as Big Ben, to
some of the world’s best clubs, to concerts at the O2, to
musicals in the West End - there is no possibility of boredom
here.
It
can take some planning, so think about what you want to do - Take
That tickets sold out quickly and O2 tickets almost always need
pre-booking, and the London Eye is also best booked beforehand.
But there are on-the-day activities too - exploring the Southbank
or wandering around the science museum for instance. So, if you
are visiting Cheshunt, there’s plenty to do in and around the
town, and London is just a train ride away - enjoy!
